Shiraz 2016 ‘Camelback’

$25.00

Details: This Heathcote Shiraz displays lovely notes of violets and blackberries with earthy plums, red berries and spices. Subtle French oak is intertwined, as fine tannins give good length and balance to go with the intense dark Shiraz fruit characters.

Origin:
Heathcote, Victoria.

Blend:
Shiraz 97%, Viognier 3%

Viticulture:
Vines planted in 1999. Vines spur-pruned and vertical shoot positioned to ensure fruit exposure and even ripening. Low yielding to ensure richly flavoured grapes.

Vintage:
An early budburst in late August, followed by an early flowering. Summer was warm and dry hence no disease pressure. The typically warm days of summer were moderated by cool nights and amply canopy, which protected the fruit. Shiraz was picked from 9 th – 14 th of Feb. A very early season indeed!

Winemaking:
Most of the Shiraz came from our Block 5, the remainder from Block 2 in our Camelback vineyard. The grapes were fermented in open and static fermenters, plunged/pumped over once daily, pressed and matured in French oak for 10 months (15% new). After 11 months barrel maturation on lees, with some stirring of the solids, the wine was assemblaged, ready for bottling.

Bottled:
Feb 2017

Alcohol:
14.0%

Ageing Potential:
Enjoy now, or cellar carefully for 3-5 years
