Words in Winter Festival returns to Daylesford this August, where a mix of LGBTQIA+, First Nations, local, and visiting writers will explore the theme ‘connection of the heart.’

With over 30 events featuring poetry readings, children's events, workshops, and author’s talks, the festival promises something for people of all tastes and appetites for interaction.

‘Our festival program is twice as big as last year. Everyone has finally decided to come to regional Victoria and share in the connection that is this beautiful community festival of words. We have some exciting up and coming LGBTQIA+ writers Sam Elkin and Katia Ariel and a bunch of magnificent humans coming in from interstate and some equally adored locals sharing their incredible stories. This writers festival will warm your heart after a long winter’ says Festival Director Emma Ireland.

Big names are coming to these small towns 90 minutes from Melbourne, on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, where the mineral springs have long held a restorative allure to city-dwellers and creatives.

Iconic local venue Palais-Hepburn will host ‘Arnold Zable In Conversation: A Retrospective' on the Friday night, and the annual Words in Winter Gala Night with very special guests Bruce Pascoe and Alison J. Barton on the Saturday.

Words in Winter is an annual literary and arts festival held in August each year in the Hepburn Shire and surrounding districts.

The festival takes place on the last weekend of winter: Friday 23 - Sunday 25 August 2024.

Established in 2000, Words in Winter is a not-for-profit organisation
