About:

After two years of groundbreaking, award winning comedy dealing with the personal and global effects of COVID 19, PAUL + 1 return with their new show BLOOD ORANGE. A dynamic and awe-inspiring collection of verbal and musical absurdity.

A conceptual odyssey chronicling, (through comedy, song, and liturgical dance) the bizarre world we find ourselves in. No stone is left unturned as Paul, and his unnamed collaborator, walk through the fires of a contemporary hell-scape to bring joy to others, and a smile to face of the living. Controversial, bleak, and hilarious – Join Paul + 1 for a delightfully dark journey towards the light.

Australian comedy legend Paul McDermott has been fighting tyranny, injustice, and ennui for over 40 years, armed only with comedy and a pretty voice. Paul McDermott Plus One is the brainchild of Australian comedy legend Paul McDermott (Doug Anthony All Stars/Good News Week/THE SIDESHOW/JJJ). Onstage, the maestro is joined by Glenn Moorhouse, the "plus one", Tasmanian born musical director, guitarist, and comrade. The mix of Paul’s angelic choir boy vocals with Glenn’s signature vitriolic incision they create an unmissable evening of fervour and delight.

He scribbles most days, and has dozens of books filled with scribbles. Paul went to art school when he was younger, and was on TV for a while as he grew up. Over time, he has been: a comedian, singer, songwriter, columnist, illustrator, poster-designer, book-maker, film-maker, writer-director, and, generally, tried to be a good person. Paul was the writer/director, set designer, costume maker, poster, t-shirt and merchandise designer and primary creator for The Doug Anthony Allstars ( a seminal Australian comedy musical group). His writing/performing TV credits include: The Big Gig, DAAS KAPITAL, Good News Week, The Side/Show, Rm 101, Think Tank amongst others.

Glenn Moorhouse Bio

Glenn has enjoyed a rich and colourful 25 year career in the Australian music industry. Guitarist, composer, arranger and musical director - his musical journey has delivered more twists and turns than the rugged coast lines of his island home, Tasmania. Throughout the years he has collaborated and performed with some of Australia’s premier artists: iOTA, Chris Cheney, Prinnie Stevens, Bobby Fox, Phil Jamieson, Sarah McLeod, Don Walker, Marcia Hines, and Tina Arena, to name a few. His work in Music Theatre has seen him perform in the original Australian Jersey Boys production and Richard O’Brien’s legendary Rocky Horror. As musical director, Glenn has brought the punk ethos of Green Day’s American Idiot to the nation as well as recently developing a new Australian work Dubbo Championship Wrestling to the stage. He is currently under commission from Melbourne Theatre Company alongside actor/writer/director Sheridan Harbridge to create a new work based on the Female Factories in Tasmania.
